The third in our series on health care reform will focus on rural health.

First we will hear from Jim Pryzbilla, CEO, of PrimeWest Health, to learn about how counties are working together to improve access and lower cost in rural Minnesota. We will learn how they are reducing fragmentation of services by integrating both public and private health care, and how tax dollars and public resources are being more effectively managed.

Next, Bruce Miller, of Minnesota Farmers Union, will present stories representing the challenges of Minnesota's farmer in accessing and providing health care for themselves and their employees.

And finally, Dr. Paul Hochfeld, an Emergency Medical physician from Corvallis Oregon, will speak to the difficulties facing rural areas of our country today, which include a shortage of providers and physicians, poorer health conditions and difficulty obtaining health insurance.

The United States is the richest nation in the world; we spend
twice as much as other developed countries on health care.
Our system is in crisis. With over 47 million people uninsured,
the inflationary costs of health care rise steeply every year.
Starbucks pays more for health care than it does for coffee
beans.

In Minnesota, an estimated 500,000 small businesses helped
create 26% more jobs last year. How do we keep small business
healthy? How do they level the playing field for better
access to health care? What about big business? How do the
insured pay to provide health care to the uninsured? Does an
employer-based health care system work? Does health care
reform prevent job lock? Job loss? If so, how will businesses
be taxed with current health care models under consideration?
Physicians for a National Health Program-Minnesota and St.
Catherine University continue their seven-part series on health
care, investigating different forms of inequality and access.
Health care is a right, not a privilege; it is an issue of justice
when necessary care is unavailable or denied. This series is

This inaugural presentation in the series features Dr. Oliver Fein, the national president of Physicians for National Health Program, and local physician Dr. Elizabeth Frost. Both will speak about their experience working with patients and as advocates of health care reform.
